Victoria Russell 2023 Paralegal Scholarship WinnerSOUTHFIELD, MI – Nov. 1, 2023 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Victoria Russell, of Bossier City, Louisiana, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2023 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Paralegal Scholarship.

This annual award began in 2018 as a way for the Michigan-based law firm to show its commitment to helping paralegal students pursue their certification and ultimate career goals.

Russell is currently enrolled in Louisiana State University’s Paralegal Studies Program.

Russell currently works full-time at a law firm, where she quickly learned how much she loves reading, writing, and trial preparations.  She says her favorite part of the process is discovery, which is the formal process of exchanging information about the case.

While learning the legal process hands-on, Russell’s father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, and they lost him a little less than two years later.

“My husband was his main caregiver. He has experienced so much in the past few years and really conquered mountains that would’ve crushed me,” Russell said. “That’s part of the reason I’m getting my certification. I want to emulate my husband and prove to him, and myself, that I can do school and work full-time. I want to further my career.”

Russell may cite her husband’s tenacity as her motivation for earning her certificate, but she says wants to continue to learn and get state certified as a paralegal. She is also considering law school if the option is available to her in the future.

“I don’t want to sit idly by and let life pass me up,” Russell said. “There are too many things to do and things to be learned.”

“The familial loss Victoria experienced became the catalyst for her desire to continue her education,” said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “She’s proof that you can grieve a loss while continuing on with your passions and education. We’re so pleased to name her the Buckfire Law Paralegal Scholarship winner this year.”

Every year, Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. awards one student with the $1,000 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Paralegal Scholarship. The scholarship is available to students enrolled in a paralegal program within the United States.

Buckfire & Buckfire P.C. recognizes that most people are stressed and overwhelmed after a serious injury or unexpected death and don’t know where to turn. Founded in 1969, the family-owned law firm provides superior legal representation and helps them from start to finish.

Buckfire Law offers four separate academic scholarships annually for students seeking to continue their education. For more information on the scholarship program, visit our page: buckfirelaw.com/scholarships/paralegal.
