Crystal Jacobs 2025 Paralegal Scholarship winnerSOUTHFIELD, MI – Oct. 20, 2025 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Crystal Jacobs, of Fort Worth, Texas, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2025 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Paralegal Scholarship.

This annual award began in 2018 as a way for the Michigan-based law firm to show its commitment to helping paralegal students pursue their certification and ultimate career goals.

Jacobs is currently enrolled in Tarrant County College’s Paralegal Studies Program.

By the time Jacobs turned 12, both her parents were incarcerated, and she faced the constant challenge of moving around and never feeling grounded. She stayed with different relatives throughout middle and high school, before moving in with her older sister. Jacobs took a break from school and welcomed her first child, before returning and graduating. Jacobs decided she wanted to enroll in college to pursue a degree in Paralegal Studies.

“I chose this path because I’ve seen firsthand how the legal system can tear families apart,” Jacobs said. “I want to be part of the solution. I want to help people understand their rights, navigate complex legal processes, and find hope in a system that often feels hopeless.”

Jacobs’ goal is to work with organizations dedicated to criminal justice reform. She aims to advocate for children and families affected by incarceration, like her own, and help others avoid the hardships she endured.

“I believe that my lived experience gives me a unique perspective and a deep sense of empathy that will make me a powerful advocate,” expressed Jacobs. “I’m not just pursuing a degree, I’m building a legacy for my children and proving that no matter where you come from, you can rise.”

“It is truly inspiring how Crystal has turned her past challenges into motivation to further her education and support those impacted by incarceration,” said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “Her ability to balance academics, parenting, work, and caring for her mother is remarkable. We are so proud to name her this year’s winner of the Buckfire Law Paralegal Scholarship.”

Every year, Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. awards one student with the $1,000 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Paralegal Scholarship.
