SOUTHFIELD, MI – Oct. 19, 2026 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Andrew Lee, of Marietta, Georgia, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2026 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Disability Scholarship.
Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. is committed to helping students reach their goals. Realizing the financial roadblock many students face in pursuit of higher education, the family-owned firm established a scholarship award in 2013 committed to helping students with disabilities or injuries in their pursuit of their degree.
Lee is currently majoring in computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology and earning minors in international affairs and Spanish.
Lee began to lose his vision at age eight. His sight declined quickly, leaving him little time to adjust. He stepped away from activities he loved, especially soccer, and had to learn new ways to handle nearly every part of daily life. Rather than focus on the change, Lee rebuilt the way he studied, got around, and competed. In middle school, he joined mock trial, which strengthened his ability to listen closely and respond in the moment without relying on visual cues.
“Losing my sight didn’t close off the direction my life was going. It just changed the route, and I’ve come to trust that detours like that usually lead somewhere I wouldn’t have found otherwise,” Lee said.
Lee is currently a civilian Premier College Intern with the U.S. Air Force, where he analyzes data, builds Power Apps dashboards, and writes Python scripts that automate reports for thousands of employees. He says improvements in accessibility technology, such as screen readers and magnification software, allow him to do the same technical work as the rest of his team. “Access isn’t just a fairness issue — it’s an efficiency and talent issue,” Lee said. He also serves as Vice President of the Georgia Association of Blind Students, where he helps other blind and low-vision students find the tools and workarounds they need to thrive in the classroom, in internships, and in future careers.
“Andrew’s drive and adaptability truly stand out,” said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “It is impressive to see him turn his experience into a goal of bringing technology and policy together, and his commitment to helping other students succeed. We are proud to name Andrew this year’s Buckfire Law Disability Scholarship winner.”
