SOUTHFIELD, MI – Oct. 20, 2025 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Abigail DeMonte, of Farmingville, New York, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2025 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Law School Diversity Scholarship.
This annual award began in 2013 as a way for the Michigan-based law firm to show its commitment to helping law students pursue their educational and career goals.
DeMonte is currently a third-year law student enrolled at Touro Law Center. She previously earned her undergraduate degree in English from St. John’s University.
At sixteen years old, DeMonte’s father suddenly passed away, an experience that shaped her purpose and resilience. In the following years, she balanced financial and household responsibilities with her studies, while working to help support herself and her mother. These challenges inspired her commitment to promote diversity through leadership, action, and supporting others.
As a first-generation Hispanic student in the legal field, DeMonte shared, “I have consistently worked to create space for others who have been silenced, excluded, or overlooked. Now, with the privilege of legal education, I am preparing to carry that mission forward as a future attorney dedicated to building access, equity, and representation into the very fabric of the legal system.”
DeMonte is actively involved on campus, serving as director of Students Helping Students, a program that connects students with academic and personal support resources. She also participates in the Women’s Bar Association, mentors youth through creative writing workshops, assists first-year law students as a teaching assistant, and contributes to both the Touro Law Review and Journal of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity.
“I am not just pursuing a law degree to build a career—I am building a platform for change,” said DeMonte. “Through continued leadership, service, and legal advocacy, I will use that platform to advance ethnic diversity, access, and equity in every space I enter.”
DeMonte plans to practice business and commercial litigation, focusing on advising minority-owned and women-led enterprises. She also aims to provide pro bono legal support to community organizations and mentor first-generation attorneys. She is passionate about nonprofit legal work and is learning Spanish to strengthen her communication.
“Abigail’s resilience and passion to help others and make a difference is remarkable,” said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “I am proud to have Abigail as this year’s recipient and look forward to seeing what she achieves in the future.”
Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. awards one student each year with the $2,000 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Law School Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship is available to a student attending law school who is also a member of an ethnic, racial, or other minority, or someone who demonstrates a commitment to issues of diversity within their community. As of 2025, Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships.
Buckfire Law offers four separate academic scholarships annually for students wanting to continue their education. For more information on the scholarship program, visit our page, buckfirelaw.com/scholarships/law.
