The consumer protection attorneys at Buckfire Law represent families whose children lost money through alleged illegal gambling activity connected to the Roblox platform.

Roblox is one of the most popular online gaming platforms for children and teenagers. Lawsuits filed in federal court allege that Roblox and related third-party gambling websites allowed minors to use Robux, Roblox’s virtual currency, to place bets on games of chance. Plaintiffs allege these practices enabled illegal gambling involving children and allowed companies to profit from those transactions.

Families claim children were able to spend real money, often without parents fully understanding that Robux could be transferred to third-party gambling websites.

What Is Roblox?

Roblox is an online gaming platform where users purchase and spend digital currency called Robux.

According to the litigation, some third-party gambling websites allowed users to connect Robux wallets and use that virtual currency to participate in online casino-style games, including roulette, slots, and other games of chance. Plaintiffs allege minors were able to access these systems and lose money through gambling activity.

The lawsuit alleges that Roblox profited from the movement and conversion of Robux while third-party sites operated gambling platforms linked to the Roblox ecosystem.

Claims in the litigation include:

  • Consumer protection violations
  • Negligence
  • Unjust enrichment
  • Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) allegations

How Did the Alleged Gambling Work?

Robux is the virtual currency used on the Roblox platform.

Players can purchase Robux using:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • Gift cards
  • Other payment methods

Robux can be used to purchase in-game items, upgrades, and digital experiences within Roblox. According to the lawsuit, third-party gambling sites allegedly allowed users to transfer Robux for betting activity outside Roblox’s core platform.

Because Robux is purchased with real money, families allege children were able to lose real economic value.

The litigation alleges that some outside gambling websites allowed users to link their Roblox accounts or Robux balances to casino-style gambling systems.

According to the complaint, users could allegedly:

  • Purchase Robux through Roblox
  • Transfer or connect Robux to third-party gambling sites
  • Place bets using Robux
  • Win or lose virtual currency through games of chance

Named third-party sites in the litigation include:

  • RBXFlip
  • BloxFlip
  • RBLXWild
  • BLOXmoon

Parents allege these systems allowed children to participate in gambling activity using money-funded digital currency.

Why Are Families Concerned About Roblox Gambling?

Families involved in the litigation allege two primary concerns.

Financial Losses

Parents claim children spent and lost money through gambling transactions that parents did not fully understand or authorize. In some reported cases, families allege children lost substantial Robux balances through repeated betting activity.

Exposure to Gambling Behavior

Plaintiffs also allege these systems exposed children and teenagers to gambling mechanics at an early age.

Research has raised concerns that gambling-like systems in digital games may increase risk of problematic gambling behaviors later in life. Public discussion on this issue has also appeared in gaming communities and consumer reporting.

Have Any Roblox Gambling Cases Been Filed?

One lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, with others being filed across the United States.

The lawsuits allege that children used Robux to participate in unlawful gambling through third party websites.

There are additional lawsuits alleging child safety and sexual exploitation allegations unrelated to the gambling lawsuits.

Who May Have a Potential Claim?

A family may have a potential claim if:

  • A child purchased Robux using real money
  • The child used Robux on third-party gambling websites connected to Roblox
  • The child lost money or virtual currency through gambling activity

Each case depends on its specific facts and available documentation.

What Evidence Can Help in a Roblox Gambling Case?

Because digital transaction records can be important, families should preserve available information.

Helpful evidence may include:

  • Roblox account records
  • Purchase history for Robux
  • Credit card or gift card records
  • Screenshots of gambling activity
  • Usernames, account identifiers, or linked site information
  • Communications involving gambling-related transactions

Early documentation may help preserve evidence that could later become difficult to obtain.
