SOUTHFIELD, MI – Oct. 19, 2026 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Megan Moylan, of Chicago, Illinois, has been named this year’s recipient of the 2026 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Law School Diversity Scholarship.
This annual award began in 2013 as a way for the Michigan-based law firm to show its commitment to helping law students pursue their educational and career goals.
Moylan is currently a third-year law student enrolled at DePaul University College of Law.
As a first-generation law student, Moylan was raised Syrian-American, an experience that showed her how heritage and identity shape how people see the world. She became interested in how culture, language, and immigration status affect whether people feel understood by the legal system, and that awareness continues to guide her commitment to cultural diversity.
Moylan’s dedication to international human rights has grown through both her studies and her fieldwork. As a participant in DePaul’s International Human Rights Law Clinic, she worked with women affected by conflict-related violence in East Timor. She also serves as Co-President of DePaul’s International Law Society, where she organizes opportunities for students to explore global legal issues.
“These experiences taught me that promoting diversity requires more than including different voices. It requires ensuring that affected communities have meaningful opportunities to shape the conversations and decisions that concern them,” Moylan shared.
Her public-interest work centers on immigrant and Spanish-speaking communities. At Ascend Justice, she supported survivors of domestic violence, including Spanish-speaking clients seeking emergency protective orders, and communicated with them directly in Spanish.
Moylan plans to pursue a career in international human rights and public-interest law, representing individuals and communities whose experiences often go unheard. She also hopes to make the legal profession more inclusive of underrepresented perspectives and to help ensure that people from all backgrounds have access to justice.
“It is admirable how Megan has devoted herself to serving people the legal system too often overlooks,“ said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “We are proud to name her this year’s recipient and look forward to seeing what she achieves in the future.“
Buckfire Law Firm awards one student each year with the $2,000 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Law School Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship is available to law students who demonstrate a commitment to diversity issues in their community. As of 2026, Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships.
Buckfire Law offers four separate academic scholarships annually for students wanting to continue their education. For more information on the scholarship program, visit: buckfirelaw.com/scholarships/law.
