DETROIT  – Attorneys from Buckfire Law, a Michigan-based personal injury law firm, announced today they have been retained on behalf of a female victim assaulted by former IBF Lightweight Champion Robert Easter Jr.

The assault occurred on Aug. 7 at Bucks Rack City in Toledo, Ohio.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Easter Jr. allegedly punched the 28-year-old victim on the left side of her face, causing her to lose consciousness. She was taken to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a concussion and a sprained ankle. She also required stitches for her split lip and suffered a chipped tooth.

“As a professional boxer, Easter Jr.’s fists are deadly weapons, Buckfire Law trial attorney Jennifer G. Damico said. “He assaulted the victim knowing his fists would cause her grave harm.”

Easter Jr. held the IBF lightweight title from 2016 to 2018. As of November 2020, he is ranked as the world’s eighth-best active light welterweight by BoxRec. The 30-year-old boxer is the son of former Toledo Light Heavyweight fighter Robert Easter Sr.

Toledo police issued a warrant for Easter Jr.’s arrest on Aug. 8, and have charged the Toledo native with simple assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. He could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

“The evidence we’ve seen to date shows that Easter Jr. assaulted the victim causing bodily harm. We are seeking compensation for her pain and suffering, fright and shock, and psychological harm resulting from the assault,” Damico said. “We also demand payment of lost income and medical expenses incurred due to assault-related injuries.”

Damico said her client wishes to remain anonymous and requested that future questions be directed to Buckfire Law.
