• Severe or explosive diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Significant weight loss

• Bloating

• Low-grade fever

Which States Have Confirmed Cyclospora Cases?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has identified five states with cases linked to the outbreak: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. Michigan has seen the most cases with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reporting 7,664 cases. Ohio has reported 1,244 cases, Indiana has reported 594, West Virginia has reported 195 cases, and Kentucky was reported 192 cases.

41 states have reported at least one cyclosporiasis case this season, according to the CDC, though some of these states report this is in line with seasonal trends.

Taco Bell Cyclospora Outbreak Investigation

Federal and state health officials, including the FDA, the CDC, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), have linked a major multistate cyclosporiasis outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms to Taco Bell restaurants.

Who Is Taylor Farms?

Taylor Farms is an American-based producer of fresh fruits and vegetables, headquartered in Salinas, California. They were founded in 1995. Taylor Farms has recalled its products due to contamination many times over the past 15 years, including:

• 2015 E. coli contamination of celery and onion blend sold at major retailers.

• 2024 E. coli outbreak at McDonald‘s due to slivered onions. Hundreds became ill, and one death was linked to this outbreak.

Taylor Farms has recalled iceberg lettuce shipped to 27 states. The CDC is still investigating the outbreak, but has linked it to shredded iceberg lettuce.
