Tiffie KeungBuckfire Law Medical School Diversity Scholarship WinnerSOUTHFIELD, MI – November 1, 2021 – Buckfire Law is pleased to announce Tiffie Keung of Grand Rapids, Mich., has been named this year’s recipient of the 2021 Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. Medical School Diversity Scholarship.

This annual award began in 2014 as a way for the Michigan-based law firm to show its commitment to helping medical students pursue their educational and career goals.

Keung is currently enrolled at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and plans to complete her residency in Flint, Mich. Keung is from Guam, where her parents both still live. She is a first-generation college student and the first in her family to pursue medicine. Keung says her parents were a great example of a hard work ethic and encouraged her to always follow her dreams, regardless of the challenges she may face.

Growing up in Guam, and seeing the socioeconomic challenges Guamanian residents face in regards to healthcare, Keung was motivated to dedicate herself to working with underserved communities. She wants to work within a minority and underserved population to teach patients about chronic disease prevention, address disparities in diverse patient populations, and continue to improve health outcomes within underserved communities.

Keung is involved in the local community, fundraising for Uloma Immigrants’ House which provides assistance and resources to immigrants. She also mentors a college student from Guam so she can help guide another individual through the process of preparing and applying for medical schools. Additionally, she is part of the Executive Board of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association where she serves as the Co-Vice President and is a member of the Student National Medical Association where she serves as the Co-Public Relations Chair.

“I was impressed by Tiffie’s empathy and concern for her fellow humans,” said Lawrence J. Buckfire, President and Lead Trial Attorney at Buckfire Law. “It’s so important for patients to feel comfortable with their doctor, and Tiffie’s determination to work with patients within diverse and underserved communities is inspiring. We couldn’t be prouder to name her this year’s winner of the Buckfire Law Medical School Diversity Scholarship.”
