Stage IV Bedsore Michigan Nursing Home Death Settlement

This Michigan nursing home neglect lawsuit involved an 81 year old who developed a Stage IV decubitus ulcer that went undiagnosed and untreated.  The medical chart showed that the resident was not regularly repositioned by the nursing staff to remove pressure of her tailbone area.  The staff also did not make daily skin observations to see if a bedsore was developing.

As a result of this negligence, the bedsore became infected which led to her becoming septic and dying just a few weeks later.  The allegations included the nursing home staff’s failure to properly assess the resident’s skin, failure properly turn her to prevent the development of skin breakdown, and failure to properly and timely notify a physician and obtain the necessary wound care prior. The case was recently settled for a confidential amount prior to trial.
