With the upcoming elections fast approaching, two spots on the Michigan Supreme Court are open. The elections for Michigan Supreme Court are crucial because they shape the legal landscape for all Michiganders.
The Michigan Supreme Court candidates endorsed by the Michigan Association for Justice and numerous Michigan lawyers and law firms, including Buckfire Law, are current Justice Kyra Harris Bolden and respected lawyer and University of Michigan law professor Kimberly Ann Thomas.
Justice Kyra Harris Bolden
Justice Bolden is the first Black woman to serve as a Justice on the Michigan Supreme Court. She has a distinguished background as a civil litigation and criminal defense attorney. Her previous roles include serving as a law clerk and she also served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives where she advocated for crime victims and supported bipartisan legislation for sexual violence survivors. Justice Bolden actively serves as a member of many legal and community organizations, including the Oakland County Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, the National Congress of Black Women-Oakland County, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Kimberly Ann Thomas
Kimberly Ann Thomas is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. She is currently a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, where she co-founded and directs the Juvenile Justice Clinic. Thomas has been appointed to the Michigan Task Force on Juvenile Justice Reform by Governor Whitmer. Her international experience includes serving as a US Fulbright Scholar in Ireland and working with the American Bar Association in the Middle East to develop law school curriculum and establish community-based legal clinics. She has also been honored with the Justice for All award for her contributions to legal education and reform.
When completing your ballot, remember that voting a straight party ticket—Democrat or Republican—does not include a vote for Michigan Supreme Court candidates, as justices are non-partisan.
